Our people
-
A/Prof. Chris Roelfsema
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
My projects focus on combining field and remote sensing based data to map and monitor coastal ecosystems over time and space, from local to global.
-
Dr Dylan Cowley
RESEARCH FELLOW
CURRENT PROJECT:
Developing capability to assess live coral cover and seagrass species using satellite based hyperspectral imagery.
-
Dr. Nicholas Hammerman
RESEARCH FELLOW
Working to enable a greater understanding of how, and where coral and seagrass grows, how to continue to monitor these ecosystems, and the factors that impact their resilience, and for seagrass, their carbon sequestration potential.
-
Kirsten Golding
RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Kirsten is a research assistant within the Marine Ecosystems Monitoring Lab focusing on coral and seagrass mapping and monitoring at Heron Island and within Quandamooka Sea Country (Moreton Bay). Her research background is in coral reef ecology, turbid reef communities and photogrammetry.
-
Joanna Smart
PhD STUDENT
My PhD research explores how hyperspectral remote sensing technology can be utilised to improve the monitoring of coral reef and seagrass ecosystems
-
Muhammad Hafizt
PhD STUDENT
PhD student developing a spatial model to estimate seagrass carbon stock in Indonesia using remote sensing technology
-
Maria Kottermair
PhD STUDENT
3D Shoreline Changes of Atoll Islands in Micronesia.
-
David Carrasco
PhD STUDENT/STAFF
I am currently working on my PhD that is part of a project that is aiming to create an online tool that allows environmental managers to monitor water quality in areas of coral reefs around the world.
-
Gillian Rowan
PhD STUDENT
PhD student developing new tools and data to facilitate kelp biomass mapping, from the single forest level to the continental Australian coastline.
-
Faye Diederiks
MASTERS STUDENT / STAFF
My current project is analysing benthic ecological change over time and space, and the implications for coral carbonate production.
-
Josh Passenger
ADJUNCT
Developing innovative field software solutions to streamline and accelerate the processing of data collected during fieldwork, enabling researchers to transform raw field observations into actionable insights more efficiently and effectively. Developer of the photo guadrate GPS linking field application.
-
Tiny Remmers
PhD STUDENT
Her PhD project will investigate how surrogates of reef recovery and adaptation vary across spatial extents and resolutions derived from underwater 3D photogrammetry.
